查看消防器材是否有檢驗報告或認證證書。目前，實行強制性產品認證的消防產品有4類12種，包括消防車、火災報警設備、消防水帶和噴水滅火設備。實行消防產品形式認可制度的消防產品有9類，包括滅火劑、防火門、消火栓、消防接口、滅火器、消防槍炮、可燃氣體探測報警產品、防火阻燃材料等。群眾在購買消防器材時要向銷售單位索要相應的檢驗報告及認證證書。如果不能提供正式檢驗報告和認證證書，其銷售的可能是假冒偽劣產品。

消防器材的效果可以通過簡單測試來鑒別，如消防應急照明燈和疏散指示標志燈外觀明顯位置上貼有防偽的紅色“S”身份證標識，或者測試在斷電后是否能5秒內投入到應急狀態，持續供電時間不應少于90分鐘。

消防器材的產品質量對后期使用非常關鍵，如購買水槍、接口等消防產品時，可現場進行一下跌落試驗，將產品從高度2米左右的空中自然向硬質地面自由落體三次左右，如發生裂痕，則為不合格消防產品。
